Clockwork
these are tough little phones. but they are little ;)i've had a year of experience with this guy. here's what i know.PROS: Unlockable. Clockwork Recovery. Multiple Custom ROMS and active development community. Responsive clear screen. Pocket size. Hot swappable SD. Abundant Accessories (via amazon ;). After flashing a custom rom you get: Tethering, Overclocking, Faster 3G.CONS: Low battery life (it goes a day with active monitoring and conservative apps. the rapid charger will bring it back to 100% in an hour ;). Pocket size. 800mhz leaves something to be desired but is not unreasonable, especially in this configuration.it's a solid piece of hardware.

Top Phone on the market
Been playing around with this phone since Thanksgiving.Earlier this month, the bootloader finally got an unlock, which allowed me to root and install custom roms. This little thing is fast, even if it has an underclocked 1.2 ghz processor. Bloatware can be removed with root.Replaces my netbook, which I no longer lug around because I have hspa+ on this phone (4g LTE not available in my area yet) web browser is super snappy.Low volume can be remedied by market apps that boost the equilizer settings.Chose this over the samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket because, like many other reviews, the colors on the screen come out clearer and in higher definition on the vivid. Netflix and NBA leaguepass play flawlessly on its 4.5 in screen, which is gorgeous.Camera is amazing. Haven't had much time to play around with it though.Got a case for it and it makes the volume rocker and power button much less likely to be accidently pressed...

Purchase! Purchase! Purchase!
I love this phone, love AT&T 4G Lte, dislike that there was no memory card included because I am a big music junkie.Love this color, black is undesireable to me. On another note, I wouldn't purchase from Amazon if you are upgrading on a family plan because it would be 160 something dollars here, but on AT&T's website, it is just 100, so cheaper! but all in all I reccomend this product to everyone!

AT&T 4G LTE Network

AT&T's 4G LTE network allows for quicker access, smoother media streaming, and faster web experiences. LTE technology is capable of delivering mobile broadband speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G. Additionally, LTE technology offers a faster response time due to lower latency--the processing time it takes to move data through a network--vastly speeding download times for web pages as well as improving services such as mobile gaming and two-way video calling.

By the end of 2011, AT&T plans to launch its 4G LTE network in 15 major metropolitan areas, covering at least 70 million Americans. Coverage will continue to expand in the next few years and is planned to be largely complete by the end of 2013.

And when combined with 4G HSPA+ technology, AT&T is capable of delivering a quicker, more consistent mobile broadband experience than ever before. AT&T has deployed HSPA+ to virtually 100 percent of its mobile broadband network, which enables 4G speeds when combined with enhanced backhaul (via Ethernet or fiber). Backhaul is one of the major pieces of a telecommunications network. Think of it as the limbs connecting AT&T's cell towers with AT&T's backbone network that provides access to the Internet.

Tech Talk

LTE = Long Term Evolution
Advanced wireless technology capable of increasing AT&T's already-fast network speeds. Now in select markets with deployment ongoing.
HSPA+ = High Speed Packet Access
Paired with enhanced backhaul--the accelerated pipeline between our network backbone and cell towers across the country--this technology boosts network performance.

Optional AT&T Services

AT&T Navigator offers several other features to make your commute more enjoyable and reliable, including mobile access to Yellowpages.com. You'll be able to find the closes ATM, restaurant, gas station, Wi-Fi hotspot and more with over 10 million business listings.

AT&T FamilyMap: Locate any phone indoors or outdoors on the AT&T Network. FamilyMap provides peace of mind by being able to conveniently locate a family member from your wireless phone or PC and know that your family's information is secure and private. Want to verify that your child arrives home from school each day? Set up a Schedule Check to automatically get location information sent to you via text message or e-mail.

Android Gingerbread Operating System

Android Gingerbread

The HTC Vivid runs the Android 2.3 operating system (dubbed Gingerbread)--the fastest version of Android available for smartphones yet. It features a cleaner, more refined interface with new icons, improved top notification bar, and more intuitive navigation.

Multitasking in Gingerbread allows you the ability to run more than one app at a time. If you're playing a game, you can easily switch to an incoming e-mail and then switch back to the game without losing your place. And like the previous version of Android ("Froyo"), Gingerbread provides support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for access to the full Web.

The onscreen keyboard makes it easier to type thanks to additional spacing between the keys and larger font sizes. And the more you use the keyboard, the easier typing will be as the enhanced suggest feature records previous input history to make better suggestions.

The Vivid also brings one-touch access to the popular Google mobile services you use every day. It also provides easy access to both personal and corporate e-mail, calendars, and contacts supported by Exchange Server and Gmail. And through Android Market, you'll get access to thousands of useful applications, widgets, and fun games to download and install on your phone, with many more apps being added every day.

Google Integration
  • Android Market for browsing and downloading thousands of free and paid apps
  • Pre-loaded Android apps: Browser, Calculator, Calendar (Google or Corporate), Camera, Clock, Contacts, Email, Gallery, Messaging, Music, News & Weather, Phone, Settings, Video Player, Voice Dialer, Voice Search, YouTube
  • Google applications: Gmail, Google Search, Google Voice Search, Google Latitude, Google Maps, Google Places, Google Talk

A Unique Phone
I have been waiting so long to get this phone. I have read all the reviews about it and was very excited when I first got my hands on it. But after hours of using and checking it out, I came to this following conclusion:THE WHITE VERSION OF THE VIVID IS THE MOST SEXIEST DESIGN YET!The phone looks very luxurious in my hand, the soft smooth plastic and my favorite part which is the hard grey metal cover on the back. The weight of the phone what gives its uniqueness, people might dislike this but all the other light phones gives them a cheapy feel. However, let me get to the pros and cons:Pros:-The screen resolution is brilliant! It is true there is now phones with 720p displays but believe me, qHD is more than enough, plus the 720p displays is too much for the dual cores processors to handle.-The 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor is ok, its not that fast but there is no lags.-The camera is good, there is no shutter delay and it takes less than half a...

Love this phone.
I got this phone for $0.01 and no shipping and handling. I kept wondering "what's the catch?" but when I received the phone it was still in its original packaging and great condition. I love it. I haven't found anything wrong with it. I can hear the ringtone and talk on it perfectly. This was a great deal.

One tough smartphone.
This is a great HTC product. I got rid of my Samsung Infuse for this phone, and immediately my husband wanted one too. It's got a metal shell instead of plastic, and fits it my hand perfectly. The camera takes beautiful pictures, it's easy to use, and is as tough as I think a phone can be.After having his phone for almost a year, it fell out of my husband's pocket at a truck stop. He had it in a leather case that clips on your belt, and had one of those plastic cling screen protectors on it. You can see where this is going. . . an 80,000 pound tractor-trailer ran over the phone. Someone found it and was able to call me on it to find out who it belonged to!!! They got it back to him, still in working order. The surface glass of the screen was fully intact, but the color layer looked like a spider web of cracks. This, however has not affected the functionality of the phone at all, minus a few dead pixels here and there and just looking a little "off" from the tiny...

Vivacious Vivid
Coming from an iPhone 4 I can say it was/is a bit of a transition to Android. Most of the apps are free (ad-supported) which is good, but mostly not on the same quality but this review is not the OS but the phone. This is an excellent phone. I read reviews comparing this to the Samsung Skyrocket so I checked out both. The build quality on the SS is way more plasticky, and to me that does justify the $50 difference. Plus touchwhiz is too much like iPhone, so why would I go to a fake version.HTC V has a great display, is super responsive, and the LTE is nice. To be honest, I only went Android bcuz I wanted a bigger screen and the 4.5" beast here is great. It does not stick out as much in my pocket as I thought it would, iPhone is better handheld but this isn't bad either. Plus it feels sturdier than the SS.To each his own though!!

The best 4G LTE phone for the money
First off, it's pretty clear that some people simply should not be allowed to write product reviews. The negative reviews listed here are laughable. 3 steps to make a phone call? You can customize your home screen as much as you want. You can make a direct dial shortcut and place it on your home screen. It doesn't get any simpler than that. Please ignore these noobs, and get yourself the Vivid. You won't find a phone with better bang for the buck than the Vivid. A huge screen, 4G LTE, Ice Cream Sandwich, qhd display, zippy 1.2 dual core, etc. I picked this phone up as a renewal for a penny. Even managed to call At&t to get the upgrade fee waived. It might take a couple of tries, but keep at it.

See larger image.

  • Google Maps Navigation with spoken turn-by-turn directions showing real-time traffic and 360° views of the destination

Good spec
This is only one of AT&T's two "true" 4G phone at Thanksgiving 2011, supporting LTE. So it is faster than iPhone4S.If you need to travel outside of USA, AT&T's compatible GSM/WCDMA/UMTS/LTE network will be your choice. Though the 4G/LTE part may not be compatible due to frequency fragmentation. This phone has a qHD display, the highest resolution of them all, of the two AT&T 4G/LTE phones. It's 960x540 pixels, slightly slightly less than the iphone4S's 960x640, bigger than Skyrocket's 800x480. But in smartphone terms, the display of the Vivid is much larger than the iPhone4S. For me it means arguably more comfortable to read books for example. Certainly you can touch type more comfortably. There are now 1280x720 displays, but arguably not all pixels are truly there. Though it makes it easier for software to just display the HD image, instead of rescaling that uses more processing power. And if 960 is good enough for apple fans, it's good enough...

Customer Review

Outstanding phone - my first Android/HTC
I've had the One X for about a week and just love it after my iphone 3S finally died. I was a bit hesitant to move the the Android eco system but the process is very smooth and Google has alot more features than Apple (like Google play, its free music cloud). The One X is beautifully designed and anybody who has seen it does a double take. Performance is fantastic including the battery which easily goes a 1.5 days w/ moderate use - I haven't come close to draining it in a day even with heavy use. Its very fast in general and the camera is the best on the market - fast, great zoom, etc. HTC's "sense" software makes for easy navigation and is a joy to use. After a week of use, I feel sorry for the folks who bought iphones recently as the hardware and overall experience is vastly inferior. Bravo HTC!

Great phone, if you care about the phone.
1. Locked bootloader, doesn't concern me, don't need it and I'm sure when I do, someone would have figured out a way.2. 16GB memory with 12GB available to use. Knew about it when I bought the phone, can't complain.3. No micro SD slot. Knew about it when I bought the phone, would have kept my samsung galaxy skyrocket if this was a deal breaker.4. The screen is great in general and I know it's HD, but I would prefer to watch 720P/1080P movies on my 55" big screen than a 4.7 inch phone. It's more for convenience, not a home theatre replacement. That should free up the 12GB available for more movies rather than trying to squeeze 720P movies into a phone.Hands down, best android phone out there. Can't stand Samsung's build quality, even the new S3 is not going to cut it in that department.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich Operating System

The HTC One X runs the Android 4.0 operating system (dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich), which adds powerful new ways of communicating and sharing while improving on the best Android features: easy multitasking, rich notifications, customizable home screens, resizable widgets, and more.

The new Ice Cream Sandwich interface features an onscreen navigation bar that replaces the hardware buttons for Back, Home, and Menu found with older Android-powered phones. And with Google+ integration, you can video chat with groups of up to 9 friends as well as easily upload and share photos and videos. Other features include:

Face Unlock

You can now unlock your phone with just your face using the Face Unlock option. It takes advantage of the front-facing camera and state-of-the-art facial recognition technology to register a face during setup and then to recognize it again when unlocking the device. Just hold your phone in front of your face to unlock (or use a backup PIN).

And the lock screen now lets you do more without unlocking. From the slide lock screen, you can jump directly to the camera for a picture or pull down the notifications window to check for messages. When listening to music, you can even manage music tracks and see album art.

Home Screen Folders

Quickly access related apps right from the home screen by organizing apps and shortcuts into folders--just drag one app onto another to create a folder.

Multitasking

Multitasking is even easier and more visual in Android 4.0. The Recent Apps button lets you jump instantly from one task to another using the list in the System Bar. The list pops up to show thumbnail images of apps used recently--tapping a thumbnail switches to the app.

Voice Input

The new voice engine in Android 4.0 lets you dictate the text you want, for as long as you want, using the language you want. You can speak continuously for a prolonged time, even pausing for intervals if needed, and dictate punctuation to create correct sentences. As the voice input engine enters text, it underlines possible dictation errors in gray. After dictating, you can tap the underlined words to quickly replace them from a list of suggestions.

Locked Bootloaders
This phone would get 5 stars from me if it did not have locked bootloaders. The locked bootloaders and the lack of an external sd card is disappointing, but there are other online storage options.I will come back and change to 5 stars when the bootloader issue is resolved.

Good Buy
I am not a heavy app user and I didn't want to shell out the big bucks to get the iphone. I was looking for an inexpensive smartphone on which I could view pictures and listen to music. Windows 6.5 is a definite upgrade over the older version, and I am really happy with this phone. The phone looks great and the screen resolution is pretty good for a device in this price range. I also like that the phones displays message data even while the screen is locked. Nifty phone for the price.
